Description
Anhydrous calcium chloride absorbs water to form salt containing water of crystallization. The solution crystallizes at low temperature and precipitates hexahydrate. When heated to 30℃, it dissolves in its own crystallization water. Continued heating causes water loss, becoming dihydrate at 200℃ and transforming into white porous anhydrous calcium chloride at 260℃.
Calcium chloride is a colorless cubic crystal, appearing white or grayish white in various forms including granules, honeycomb blocks, spheres, irregular granules, and powders. It is slightly toxic, odorless, with a slightly bitter taste. Highly hygroscopic and prone to deliquescence when exposed to air. Easily soluble in water with significant heat release (enthalpy of dissolution: -176.2cal/g). The aqueous solution is slightly acidic, requiring storage in sealed containers.
