Description
Calcium chloride is a chemical compound composed of chlorine and calcium elements (chemical formula CaCl2) with a slightly bitter taste. As a typical ionic halide, it appears as white, hard fragments or particles at room temperature. Key characteristics include:
- Colorless cubic crystals appearing white or grayish-white in granular, honeycomb block, spherical, or powder form
- Slightly toxic, odorless, with a slightly bitter taste
- Extremely hygroscopic and prone to deliquescence when exposed to air
- Highly soluble in water (74.5 g/100g at 20°C) with significant exothermic reaction
- Soluble in various polar and proton solvents including methanol, ethanol, and ethylene glycol
