It is slightly soluble in water but soluble in acids and ammonium salt solutions. It is a versatile inorganic compound, widely used in flame retardant materials, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, food processing, and the electronics industry.

Application
1. Flame Retardant
Magnesium hydroxide is an efficient flame retardant, widely used in the high polymer material industry, including plastics, rubbers, fibers, and resins. When heated and decomposed, it releases bound water, absorbing a large amount of latent heat. This process lowers the material's surface temperature, inhibits the decomposition of polymers, and cools the flammable gases produced.
2. Water Treatment
Magnesium hydroxide can be used to neutralize acidic wastewater, adjust the pH value of water, and remove heavy metal ions (such as lead, chromium, and cadmium) from wastewater. It also neutralizes acidic wastewater. Additionally, it is used to remove residual chlorine from water and has a good removal effect on chemical oxygen demand (COD) and color.
3. Plastics and Rubber Industry
After special processing, magnesium hydroxide can be used as a filler for plastics and rubbers. It not only enhances the flame retardancy of the materials but also has smoke suppression and filling functions. It can increase the hardness, compressive strength, and wear resistance of rubber products.
