Sodium bicarbonate (chemical formula: NaHCO₃), commonly known as baking soda, soda powder, comb powder (Hong Kong, Taiwan), Cao, baking alkali, white fine crystal, solubility in water is less than soda.
Sodium bicarbonate is a white alkaline powder that is easily soluble in water. After combining with water, it begins to release carbon dioxide. It reacts faster in acidic liquids (such as fruit juice), and as the ambient temperature rises, the release of gas becomes faster.
Sodium bicarbonate will remain after the action of sodium carbonate, the use of too much will make the finished product alkali taste.
Sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, commonly known as baking soda and baking alkali.

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, NaHCO3) can be used as an adsorbent for flue gas desulfurization. It can adsorb acid pollutants in flue gas by chemical adsorption, and at the same time, it can also adsorb some inorganic and organic substances by physical adsorption. In this process, the fine sodium bicarbonate powder is directly sprayed into the high temperature flue gas. At high temperature, sodium bicarbonate decomposes to produce sodium carbonate Na2CO3, H2O and CO2. The newly produced sodium carbonate Na2CO3 has corresponding reaction activity when it is generated and can react with acid pollutants in flue gas. Generally, the flue gas temperature is between 140 and 250 °C. Due to the activity of the sodium bicarbonate adsorbent, a slight excess of sodium bicarbonate (a stoichiometric factor between 1.1 and 1.3) is usually sufficient. In principle, sodium carbonate (soda, Na2CO3) can also be used for flue gas desulfurization. The reaction activity of sodium carbonate is slightly lower, but the process flow is almost unchanged.
Desulfurization effect of baking soda:
Sodium bicarbonate in different forms generally have good desulfurization effect, national standard GB1886.2-2015, especially with slurry and activated carbon adsorption saturated solution effect is better. From the kinetic process, the flow rate and temperature of the air flow have a certain impact on the desulfurization process of sodium bicarbonate. Industrial baking soda has a better effect when the air flow speed is not high and the temperature is lower than 150℃.
