Calcium Chloride Dihydrate: Differences Between Flake, Pellet and Powder

Calcium chloride dihydrate (74%‑77% CaCl₂) comes in three common forms: flakes, pellets and powder. They share the same chemical content, but behave quite differently in dissolving speed, dust level, storage and real‑world usage.

Flakes are the most popular on export market. They dissolve fast, produce little dust and store well. Flakes work great for making brine liquid, road de‑icing, concrete antifreeze and refrigeration fluid. They are easy to unload from jumbo bags and widely accepted by global buyers. One small downside: flakes may stick together if stored in very humid conditions.

Pellets (round beads) have smooth round shape, good flow‑ability and almost no dust. They fit automatic feeding machines perfectly. Pellets are preferred for dust-control projects, de‑icing spreaders and humidity‑control boxes. They resist caking better than flakes, but dissolve a little slower than flakes when mixing into water.

Powder dissolves the fastest among the three. It is good for quick‑mix chemical processes and water treatment. However powder creates heavy dust during handling, which needs proper operation protection. It is not suitable for outdoor spreading; wind will blow fine powder away and cause material loss.
