Product Description
Ammonium sulfate (English name: Ammonium sulfate), commonly known as sulfur ammonium, is an inorganic salt compound with the chemical formula (NH₄)₂SO₄ and a molecular weight of 132.14. At room temperature, it appears as colorless rhombic crystals. Industrial products are generally small white or slightly yellow granules, but some by-products may have a slight blue or dark brown color. It has a relative density of 1.77, a melting point of 280°C (decomposition), and is highly soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is acidic (pH = 5.5 at 0.1 mol/L), and its solubility in water decreases with increasing ammonia content. Ammonium sulfate is hygroscopic and tends to form lumps after absorbing moisture. Chemically, it exhibits the properties of ammonium salts and sulfates. It releases ammonia gas when reacting with alkalis, decomposes into ammonia, nitrogen, and sulfur dioxide upon heating, forms a barium sulfate precipitate with barium chloride, and generates a brown precipitate with potassium mercuric iodide solution.In industry, ammonium sulfate is mainly produced by the direct reaction of ammonia with sulfuric acid or by passing ammonia and carbon dioxide into a suspension of gypsum powder. With a nitrogen content of about 21%, ammonium sulfate is a fast-acting fertilizer suitable for most crops. It is also used in the salting-out process in the pharmaceutical field, for yeast cultivation in fresh yeast production, and as a flux for welding, fire retardant for textiles, catalyst for food coloring, assistant dyeing agent for acidic dyes, and deashing agent for leather.

Product Application
A high-quality nitrogen fertilizer (commonly known as fertilizer powder), suitable for general soils and crops, it promotes vigorous growth of branches and leaves, improves fruit quality and yield, and enhances crops' resistance to disasters. It can be used as a base fertilizer, top dressing, and seed fertilizer. It can undergo a double displacement reaction with table salt to produce ammonium chloride, react with aluminum sulfate to form ammonium alum, and be used with boric acid to manufacture refractory materials. It can also be added to electroplating solutions to increase conductivity. Additionally, it serves as a catalyst for food coloring, a nitrogen source for yeast cultivation in fresh yeast production, an assistant dyeing agent for acid dyes, and a deashing agent for leather. Moreover, it is used in beer brewing, chemical reagents, and battery production. One of its significant applications is in the mining of rare earth elements. Using ammonium sulfate as a raw material, rare earth elements are extracted from the ore through ion exchange. The resulting leachate is then processed through impurity removal, precipitation, pressing, and calcination to obtain the rare earth ore. Approximately 5 tons of ammonium sulfate are required to mine and produce 1 ton of rare earth ore.
